I took the truck to the body shop yesterday, so I am going to have to use Big Red for the next few days. That got me thinking, "I need to find what is causing that hesitiation under light accelleration.
I had put a carburetor rebuild kit in it about 6 months ago - nothing. I installed a new vacuum advance canister due to a bad diaphragm - nothing. I had screwed with the timing till I was blue in the face - nothing.
Today, I thought I would start at the simplest problem - vacuum leaks. It turns out, when I installed the vacuum advance canister, I may have pulled off a nearby vacuum line. That was the problem. I trimmed the endos of the lines, reinstalled them, played with the initial and full advance a little to get rid of pinging.
Big Red runs like new. Not only is there no hesitation under partial throttle, I am able to burn the hide off that passenger side BFG T/A Radial.
It took about a year to get right

, but it is worth it.
